Thoughts Flow
|
Tom Egan, Artist with Water, has been creating versions of his copyrighted “Thoughts Flow” exhibits since 1998. Some of these exhibits host over 3,000 visitors a day, and they are located throughout Canada, the USA and even in the Caribbean.
Visitors of all ages can immediately participate on these exhibits, without prior instruction. They create their own changes in the flow patterns of this water. They can alter the water’s speed and direction of flow. They can induce turbulence, and they can even increase or decrease the depth of the water in some areas.
Observing the results of their experimentations prompts speculation within an individuals mind about what their next move might be, what changes that move might create. In young minds, this is an important thinking skill. The ability to visualize several possible choices and to then pick the best one from those possibilities is a skill that can benefit them for the rest of their lives. This is abstract thought. Over 22 billion patterns can be made on my smallest “Thoughts Flow” exhibits, and since there are no wrong moves, their abstract thoughts can flow without interruption; in warm, clear water that dances and swirls along.
As you move around your exhibits, do you notice any irregularly shaped floor areas that could use a dose of inspiration? Such areas are excellent locations for a gorgeous water exhibit. We can recreate local terrain in a water exhibit that also includes this “Thoughts Flow” activity, and other water exhibit activities.
